How Home Improvements Affect Appraisals
When asked to provide a value for a particular improvement on a home, many appraisers are shy to respond. Each improvement and its affect on your home's value is very unique to your property and your surrounding community.
As a service to our customers however, we have decided to present our experiences regarding home improvements for your benefit. Please note that these are very general guidelines only. Please consult a qualified appraiser to discern the actual affect on your property.
It should be noted that typically, neutral decorating (new carpet, paint, etc) tends to provide the highest return on each dollar spent. For more involved projects, such as decks, kitchen and bath remodels, etc., you should consult your appraiser.
Note: The information located on this page refers to appraisal values for home improvements in the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Twin Cities, Minnesota as well as surrounding areas. If your home is in an area outside the Twin Cities, your appraisal value can vary significantly. Contact a local appraiser in your area for the most accurate appraisal of your home or property.
